Alabama in the 1930's

was a very depressing and gloomy time. The stocks dropped, people lost their jobs, and much business went bank-rupted. For farmers the only option was to grow cotton because it was their main resource. Slavery was also a big factor in the Alabama area at this time; black people were discriminated and were made slaves. The white folks would force them to pick the cotton they grew for little money, if any. This helped the farmers makes more money when the stocks dropped.

The Klu Klux Klan


- The "KKK" is a group of white supremacists that killed colored people because they think white is right, they would burn them on crosses

-There are 3 Klans in total, 2 in the past and 1 present.

-The first ever Klan was formed in 1865 in Tenneassee.

- The second formed later in 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Saskatchewan was a main place in Canada for the second Klan in 1930-35

-The third Klan was formed in 1946 and is still going strong

- The famous quote in 1930's and in "To Kill a Mockingbird" is "The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself"



- the President of this time was Herbert C. Hoover 1929-1933 and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt 1933-45
