Discrimination/ Social inequility:
Jean Lousie "Miss Caroline, he's a cunningham." - meaning that he's poor, making a rude comment that represents the person by his last name.
Social Inequalitiy; "Folks are just Folks." scout believes Atticus lables the Ewells as "trash." Scout doesnt understand why the Ewell's and cunninghams are so disliked and why these poor families are to pridefull to recieve help from others.

Learning to be a lady(scout):
Scoute: Scout learns that being a true lady means keeping your composure and dignity even in difficult times.To go by the side of Atticus and learn more about tom Robinson and the trial still the two woman reatain composure while feeling the news ar the same time, Scout feels this is part of the meaning of being a true lady.

Cowardice: I drew a bead on him, remembered what atticus had said, then dropped my fists and walked away, "Scout's a cow-ward!" ringing in my ears It was the first time i ever walked away from a fight.
Bravery: Somehow, if i fought Cecil i would let atticus down. Atticus so rarely asked Jem and me to do something for him; I could take being called a coward for him. I felt extremely noble for having rememebered, and remained noble for three weeks.

Morality & Ethics: standing up for what's right:
Moral themes pervade this story as scout and her brother Jem learn about the battle between good and evil in society. Atticus upholds the law in his own right and truthfully defends Tom based on his belief that all men are created equal.
He teaches them the morality of doing the right thing desipe the evil that exists in the world and to never loose faith in the goodness of people.
“If I didn’t I couldn’t hold my head up in town; I couldn’t represent this country in the legislature; I couldn’t even tell you or Jem to anything again.”
The same is true for many of the people in the town and countryside around Maycomb: They fear what they don't understand a race other than their own. The children fear the idea of Boo Radely,which is actually Arther Radley. "Boo Radley". Bob Ewells- Alexandra feels bob may eventually do "something furtive," and Jem tells Atticus plainly that "we're scared for you." Atticus Finch- "what are you scared of him?" she sobbed, pointing at Atticus.

Good and Evil in the world:
Atticus teches his children, believes that people usually contain aspects of both good and evil, but will usually prevail. "What I meant was, if Atticus finch drank until he was drunk he wouldn't be as hard as some men are at their best. There are just some kinds of men who- who're ao busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results." - Miss Maudie (52)

Education the than school:
They learned more variable learning skills at home than at school. The new teacher, Miss Caroline has printed the alphabet on the board. She calls on scout to read it. Scout read it, then "after making her read most of my first grade reader and then she dicovered that she was literate and looked at me with more than faint distaste."

Compassion for the misfits:
Atticus is a lawyer, he has compasssion for the cases he has especially for Tom Robinson because he is accused for something he did not do. "scout," said Atticus, "when summer comes you'll have to keep your head about far worse things, and the way we conduct ourselves when the chips are down- well, all i can say is, when you and jem are grown, maybe you'll look back on this with some compassion and some feeling that i didn't let you down."(p.120)
